Central Mucoepidermoid Carcinoma Radiographically Mimicking an Odontogenic Lesion

Central mucoepidermoid carcinoma (CMEC) is a rare pathological entity with only few case reports in the literature. The present reported an uncommon occurrence of CMEC mimicking odontogenic lesion young patient. A 17-year-old female patient sought dental care due to slight swelling located posterior region mandible on left side. Radiographic exams revealed osteolytic defined limits relation proximity pericoronal follicle tooth #38. clinical and radiographic diagnostic hypothesis was lesion. Histological sections showed presence neoplasm glandular origin, not encapsulated, predominantly cystic growth pattern. consisted mucous, intermediate, squamous cells. In immunohistochemical staining, neoplastic cells were positive for cytokeratin 7. Mucous PAS diastase digestion. final diagnosis carcinoma. tumor removed surgically, has shown no signs relapse nor recurrence. conclusion, may mimic features various pathologies, but despite its rarity, clinicians oral radiologists should consider as jaw lesions.
